The balanced Filo Bugger has quickly become one of my stillwater staples. Ingeniously tied using pheasant rump aftershaft feathers in a dubbing loop the action this fly has in the water is unreal. When wet it also darkens and matches a leech almost perfectly. The balanced fly concept was first tied by Jerry McBride of Spokane Washington for the big reservoir trout of the Columbia Basin. Tied on a jig hook with a 4mm tungsten bead out on a sewing pin, this fly will suspend under an indicator horizontally. This, along with the wave action moving the indicator and fly, creates movement very much like leeches, damselfly nymphs, and other moving stillwater prey.
